LOEL L. GREENE  August 10, 2004

LOEL L. GREENE, 59, of Hood Avenue, an educational specialist with Educational Alliance at Brown University, Providence, for 10 years, died unexpectedly Tuesday at home after an illness. He was the husband of Ellen (Martin) Greene. They had been married for 37 years. Born in Albany, N.Y., a son of Dorothy (Parker) Greene of Westport, Conn., and the late Joel Greene, he was raised in Albany and had lived in Massachusetts, Connecticut and New York before moving to Rhode Island 11 years ago, and to East Providence in 2000. Mr. Greene was a 1965 graduate of Franklin Pierce College, Rindge, N.H. He received a master's degree in 1972 from Keene (N.H.) State College, and his ABD (formerly known as CAGS) from UMass.-Amherst. He volunteered for the National Guard during the Vietnam War.He was an active member of both AGELE (Association for Gender Equity Leadership in Education), and NAME (National Association of Multicultural Education). Mr. Greene was a world traveler and an art enthusiast. As a youth, he attended Camp Cayuga, on Schroon Lake, N.Y., for 17 years. Besides his wife and mother, he leaves a daughter, Pruett E. Cunningham of Wrentham, Mass.; a son, Matthew Greene of Groton, Vt., a sister, Ralle Greenberg of Weston, Conn; and five grandchildren.
